The vision of the Centre is Imagined Futures - how do we think of the futures of young people, their families and the country against the backdrop of one of the most serious HIV and AIDS epidemics any society has had to live through, and emerge a better, stronger, and more compassionate society?
The CSA promotes the integration of HIV and AIDS-related courses and planning of all the faculties at the University, and facilitates campus-wide HIV and AIDS-focused research. It assists the University to plan strategically for the impact of HIV and AIDS on students and staff in a high prevalence country. Not only does the CSA participate in counselling, treatment and support services for students, it also disseminates media and information resources at the University, hosts a monthly AIDS Forum on topical issues and conducts regular seminars, workshops and symposiums for staff, students and the public.
The CSA encourages the development of curricula which challenge and stimulate students and research which furthers our understanding of the epidemic. Through this a momentum will develop for faculty-based volunteer and peer education programmes. The CSA has supported the development of uniquely customised student training for the Medical and Veterinarian campuses and has collaborated with the Engineering, Law, Humanities, Medicine and Theology Faculties in the development of the prototype of a home-based care kit.
