Launch: Balancing Acts AIDS Review 2008

Top level CSA What's New

The Open Society Foundation for South Africa and the Centre for the Study of AIDS invite you to attend the launch of AIDS Review 2008, Balancing Acts, written by Carmel Rickard.

The launch will commence with a lunch followed by a moderated panel discussion, and a Q & A, with a group of distinguished panellists.

Jody Kollapen of the Human Rights Commission will chair the discussion.

Panelists include - Carmel Rickard, the author. Belinda Beresford OSF media fellow, Theresa Rossouw from the Health Sciences Faculty - UP, Joe Ngelanga from The Justice College.

Balancing Acts explores the tension between public health and human rights through the lens of some vexing challenges in the South African HIV/AIDS epidemic such as TB, HIV testing uptake and sexual violence. Asking whether a focus on human rights is appropriate or an impediment in the light of our desperateness to find quick solutions, Balancing Acts also questions the role of the legal system in promoting access to rights.

Venue: SRC Chambers, Conference Centre, University of Pretoria
