Global Campaign for Microbicides

The Global Campaign is a broad-based, international effort to build support among policymakers, opinion leaders, and the general public for increased investment into microbicides and other user-controlled HIV prevention methods. Through advocacy, policy analysis, and social science research, the Campaign works to accelerate product development, facilitate widespread access and use, and protect the needs and interests of users, especially women.

People Opposing Women Abuse(POWA) was established in 1979 as a response to the high levels of violence against women experienced in the community.POWA has thus,effectively been operational for the past 25 years.The Organisation is a registered non-profit Section 21 Company-Registration No.2001/003984/08. POWA was primarily initiated by volunteers and offers services to women who experienced domestic violence,sexual harassment,rape and adult survivors of incest. The Organisation has a strong gender sensitive stance and seeks to empower women through the process of counselling,education,advocacy and lobbying.

SAAVI - The South African AIDS Vaccine Initiative
|
The South African AIDS Vaccine Initiative (SAAVI) was formed in 1999 as a lead programme of the Medical Research Council (MRC) of South Africa. Primary funding was received from the Department of Health (DoH), and of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology (DACST) and Eskom. SAAVI was established to co-ordinate the research, development and testing of HIV/AIDS vaccines in South Africa.

Data ranging from survivors stories, to how to prevent rape, what to do during and after a rape, types of rapists, how the husbands and fathers of women and girls raped can cope, how to push the police investigation and cope with the court case were researched and put together by rape survivors and experts from Johannesburg to Canada, California to Kimberley in fields as diverse as sexology, criminology, pharmacology, psychology and policing.

The Three Amigos
|
The Three Amigos is an animated series of 20 PSAS (Public Service Announcements) featuring three lovable condom characters: Shaft, Stretch and Dick. The series is a Canadian South African co-production and is currently running on SABC 1 in South Africa. The project is an entirely volunteer effort and tapes are to be provided to broadcasters, NGOs CBOs and education institutions free of charge. This comedic HIV/AIDS prevention strategy is supported by Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
The Three Amigos is a comedic intervention which speaks to the sexually active, primarily young people, in a humorous and non moralistic tone about the dangers of unprotected casual sex.
